A senior Chihuahua's nightly routine is warming hearts across the internet.

Alex Stotler (@alexstotler) shared footage of her parents' 15-year-old white Chihuahua carrying a well-loved stuffed animal—a white bear that looks nearly as old as he does—into the living room as a clear signal that he is ready for bed. The sweet moment racked up almost 1 million likes and over 5.7 million views on TikTok.

"My parents' 15 year old Chihuahua brings them his stuffed animal when he's ready for bed," the text overlay on the video reads. "And he's been doing this for years," Stotler added in the caption.

In the clip, the small dog scuttles into the room clutching his ragged bear, which has a hole that has caused its stuffing to spill out. His parents sit nearby, watching his familiar and heartwarming ritual.

Chihuahuas, like many small dog breeds, often enjoy longer life spans than larger dogs. PetMD says that dogs typically live between 12 and 15 years, with small dogs outlasting their larger counterparts.

As canines age, their routines and comforts become increasingly important. PetMD also outlines how to best care for senior dogs, highlighting the value of regular vet checkups, joint support, gentle exercise, and a stable environment. Simple routines—such as bringing a beloved toy to bed—can offer emotional comfort and reinforce a sense of security.

PetChiDog says that Chihuahuas are considered seniors between the ages of 9 and 12 due to their status as a toy breed.

As Chihuahuas age, it is important to monitor their dental health, weight, mobility, and organ function. Regular vet checkups, a balanced senior-specific diet, and maintaining a calm, supportive environment can help keep senior Chihuahuas comfortable and thriving in their golden years.

TikTok users were deeply moved by the Chihuahua's sweet habit.

"The fact that animals have their own little lives at home and routines kicks my heart every time," said Iz.

"Pick that poor old baby up and cuddle him. That is the sweetest thing," added Hayley Johns.

"How sweet. This made me cry. I lost my 20 year old Chihuahua almost 2 years ago," shared another viewer.

"I literally put a big chair in the bedroom so I could sit in there and knit because my little old man wanted me to come to bed at 5 p.m.," one user wrote, echoing the tender bond many pet owners share with their aging companions.

Caring for an elderly Chihuahua requires special attention to their changing needs.
