At the age of 82, Martha Stewart is reflecting on her life's choices and the paths she took, including some she now views with subtle regret.

In a revealing retrospective with the New York Times on April 5, the lifestyle guru discussed her pivotal decision to leave a Wall Street career to venture into writing and catering during her 40s.

Stewart shared her thoughts on career and ambition: "Maybe a little uncertainty can help fuel ambition," she noted. "When I left my job on Wall Street, I knew I had to create a career for myself. I became a caterer, catering parties every night."

Despite the successful career pivot, the culinary sensation confessed to having initial doubts about her legacy, particularly concerning how her granddaughter Jude might one day perceive her achievements. "Still I thought, 'Will there come a time when my granddaughter' — she's 12 — is asked, 'What did grandma do?' And all she can say is 'Oh, she made parties for people.' I thought, 'I have to do something more than this.' That was in the 1980s, when I wrote my first book, the one on entertaining."

The transition from finance to the culinary world had significant personal repercussions, notably ending her marriage to Andrew Stewart, whom she married at 19. "At that time I wasn't keeping my eye on the home, even though I was known as a homemaker. It wasn't enough for a marriage," she wrote. She also expressed a poignant reflection on her family life: "Maybe I regret not having had more children. Maybe I regret that my marriage ended abruptly. We'd been together 27 years."

Her only child, Alexis, was born in 1965, and the couple's separation came as a shock to their friends in 1987, resulting in a divorce three years later. Alexis has made her mom a grandmother twice over to Jude, 13, and Truman, 12. In recent years, Stewart has openly shared her close relationship with her grandchildren, posting them occasionally on her social media.
