MSNBC host Joe Scarborough sarcastically hit back Wednesday at President Donald Trump's attack on the media for speculative reports about the whereabouts and health of First Lady Melania Trump, questioning why anyone would "lie about a loved one having a facelift."
Scarborough, who's engaged to co-host Mika Brzezinski, wondered how "anyone would be so cruel to do such a thing?" making a veiled reference to Trump's attack on Brzezinski nearly a year ago. Trump said that Brzezinski was "bleeding badly" from a facelift when she and Scarborough visited the president's Mar-a-Lago estate just prior to his inauguration.
"I agree that it would be "vicious" and "unfair" to lie about a loved one having a facelift for the purpose of causing pain and embarrassment. Mr. President, can you imagine anyone would be so cruel to do such a thing?" Scarborough tweeted in response to Trump.

Brzezinski, too, mocked the president.
"I can't even imagine," she said, quoting Scarborough's tweet.
Trump accused the "Fake News Media" of being "unfair" and "vicious" toward his wife after she underwent a medical procedure last month for a benign kidney condition and had not been seen publicly the subsequent 25 days. The first lady is scheduled to make her first public appearance since the surgery Wednesday afternoon.
"The Fake News Media has been so unfair, and vicious, to my wife and our great First Lady, Melania. During her recovery from surgery, they reported everything from near death, to facelift, to left the W.H. (and me) for N.Y. or Virginia, to abuse. All Fake, she is doing really well!" Trump said.
Trump issued a verbal attack on both Brzezinski and Scarborough in June of last year, calling the latter "Psycho Joe" and the former "low I.Q. Crazy Mika."
"I heard poorly rated @Morning_Joe speaks badly of me (don't watch anymore). Then how come low I.Q. Crazy Mika, along with Psycho Joe, came to Mar-a-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year's Eve, and insisted on joining me. She was bleeding badly from a face-lift. I said no!" Trump tweeted June 29.
Trump's critics denounced his comments as a personal attack on members of the media and revived criticism of the way in which the president describes his female detractors like former Fox News and current NBC host Megyn Kelly, who he once said had "blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever."
