Zach Cregger wowed audiences with his debut horror film, "Barbarian," leading to his follow-up called "Weapons." In the same sort of pattern, Cregger's follow-up showcased trailers that took audiences on a ride, while the finished product was something far different.

"Weapons" became an instant hit, grossing $263 million at the worldwide box office, according to Box Office Mojo. The reported budget was also $38 million. On top of that, the film has a 94 percent critic approval rating and an 85 percent audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Simply put, "Weapons" became a successful fan-favorite horror and another solid film in Cregger's young filmmaking career. Now, the director himself has confirmed that the world of "Weapons" is set to expand.
During the events in "Weapons," the audience is introduced to a character named Aunt Gladys. Without ruining too much about her character, she is essentially the villain in the film. However, not much is known about her.
Now, Cregger has confirmed that a prequel film based on the wildly popular character is being discussed. Cregger revealed in an exclusive interview with Fangoria that his prequel is being discussed with Warner Bros.
“It is real and I’ve been talking to Warner Bros. about it,” Cregger told Fangoria in a new interview. “There’s a story, and I’m pretty excited about it. It’s not bulls***.”
There were rumors that Cregger had an idea for a prequel film, and this film was already something he was prepared to present if the opportunity presented itself.

“I was ready,” Cregger added of how the prequel idea came about. “I had it kind of in my pocket before the movie came out.”
Considering the success of the first film, it is not at all shocking that Warner Bros. is choosing to move forward with a new prequel. It will be interesting to see how Creggers builds out this new budding universe.
