League of Legends will be releasing its first graphic novel with Marvel Entertainment. Ashe: Warmother , written by Riot Games Odin Austin Shafer and illustrated by Nina Vakueva, who's worked on "Heavy Vinyl," will release its first chapter on Dec. 19. Every month, a new issue will be released on digital platforms, culminating in a physical graphic novel in May 2019.

Online comics have been a big part of League of Legends since the game's start. Riot Games has been able to tell their story using webcomics and animated websites. Nine webcomics can be found on their site, with dozens of other fan-commissioned pieces floating around the web.

"Many fans of the Marvel Universe and comics share their interests and passion for storytelling with the gaming community," said C.B. Cebulski, Editor-in-Chief of Marvel in a press release. " League of Legends is one of the most well-known games in the industry, and their unique world and extensive roster of rich characters and are a perfect fit for comics."

Ashe Warmother

...

Ashe: Warmother will follow the saga of League of Legends marksman Ashe as she learns about the Freljord by going on a dangerous quest that will change Runeterra. Expect to see recognizable faces, potentially Lissandra, Sejuani and Nunu. Maybe they'll even find a way to grab Olaf and give him the chance to knock down a Watcher or three.

League of Legends has the potential for nearly-unlimited storytelling. Riot Games releases information about their champions and the world they live in at a snail's pace. Every champion release or event, there will be a new piece of fiction to consume, but there's still so much we don't know. Have Kai'Sa and Kassadin reunited? Are Urgot and Sion enemies? Will anyone be Amumu's friend? Comics like these flesh out the universe and give players a larger knowledge of the world.
